Remembering Nanay

Nanay Gloria on Flickr“… those who lead many to righteousness, will shine like the stars forever and ever”. Daniel 12:3

I am writing this blog during the death anniversary of my beloved mother-in-law. I personally do not believe that mother-in-laws are crosses that the husband’s carry. For me, she was an amazing mentor and witness of Jesus’ light.

She was no magnificent speaker. With her tough Bicol accent, there were words that sound funny. But her actions spoke lectures more valuable than those of the greatest minds.

… When my sons where both having unsuspected bouts of pseudo-pneumonia, she left the comforts of her home and travelled all the way from Novaliches, Quezon City to our home to spend days taking care of them. She taught me compassion.

… When my then wife and I had a bad fight, which was caused by yours truly (sorry about that, again), she was quick to listen and forgive. She taught me forgiveness.

… When understanding was lacking, she was a true example of believing that everything going to be alright in the end. She taught me patience.

… When we are afraid and could not control the things that are happening around us, we run to God. She taught me faith.

Her lectures were neither heard on the podium, read on the newspapers or blogs, nor the company of the wealthy and powerful. Still her lessons were true to its meaning. This may not be a fitting honour to a great mother. But I surely believe that our God has his way of putting her place with the superstars of life.

Cheers to you, Nanay! We remember! Do pray for us as we continue to walk this path. See you again! We love you… always.
